What do I get when I register CoolTick?
CoolTick is free to try and can be downloaded from the Download Page
but to have unlimited symbols (unregistered version only allows two symbols) you
must pay the shareware fee. This shareware fee buys one user license which has
a list of stock symbols. If you use this same license information on other machines
you will be able to see the same list of symbols (very useful when using CoolTick
on multiple machines).
How do I register CoolTick?
You can either pay with a credit card or through PayPal.
Once you make the payment you will be sent an email with ID and KEY information to register your ticker.
Be sure you use your correct email address when making the shareware payment or the automatic emailing
of your ID and KEY will not reach you. If you don't receive your ID and KEY within a few minutes, let
us know and we will send them to you manually.
What if I give my ID and KEY to someone?
If someone else uses your ID and KEY they will be able to change your list of
symbols. So, when they change their symbol list your ticker will change, and when you
change your symbols, their ticker will change. To make a long story short, you
shouldn't give your ID and KEY to someone.
What if I lose or forget my registration ID or KEY?
If you lose your KEY there is a "Recover Key" form at top of this page.
You can use this form if you know your ID (it's the email you used when you purchased CoolTick).
If you forgot your ID then we can try to look it up for you, simply send us an email or use the
other form to request this information.

How do I start CoolTick every time I turn on my computer?
If you want CoolTick to start every time you turn on your computer, there is a new
checkbox in the Options dialog.
What do I require to run CoolTick?
The only requirements are Windows operating system and an internet connection. It does not
require a lot of space or CPU power.
Is there a MAC version of the software?
No, currently we do not have a MAC version of CoolTick.
If you are a Mac user, we suggest
Stock Menulet.
Can I run more than one CoolTick at the same time with different stock information?
Yes, but you need more than one user account to do so. It is recommended that
you use labels or quick-links to make separate groups in the same ticker. If you really want
to run multiple tickers, we have no problem with you buying multiple licenses, but unless you
have multiple email addresses we will have to manually setup each license with a different ID.
Just use the form at the top of this page to get help.

How do I change the CoolTick settings?
To change any of the settings of CoolTick, simply use the ticker menu by clicking the right-mouse
button anywhere on the ticker and choose "Options...". To change, add or delete symbols choose
"Edit Symbols..." in the menu. Once you change a setting it will be remembered the next time you
start CoolTick.
Where does CoolTick store these settings?
CoolTick stores these settings along with registration information in the Windows registry under
the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CoolTick".
Will CoolTick remember my settings if I download the latest version?
Yes. CoolTick settings are recognized by newer versions so none of your customization is lost,
including the list of symbols, labels and quick-links.
Are quotes real-time or delayed?
Quotes are 15-20 minutes delayed.
How do I change the data displayed for each symbol?
Using the right menu, choose "Options" and then check or uncheck the "Scrolling Data" that displays for
each symbol as it scrolls through the ticker, such as: price, day's change, volume, high price,
low price, time of last trade, etc.
What are the high and low price alerts?
These high and low alert values will cause CoolTick to blink a slightly larger arrow (either up or
down depending on the alert) behind the normal up or down arrow. If you check the "Show popup..."
checkbox you will see a message appear on your screen when one of the alert prices is hit.
There is also a new "Play Sound" checkbox that causes a WAV file to play when any high or
low price hits. The popup and sound alerts can both be customized for each symbol.
What does "Always On Top" mean?
This option allows you to have CoolTick "float" above all other windows. When this setting
is turned off, you might have to minimize all other applications to see and interact with
CoolTick since it doesn't show up in the taskbar. If you have the tray icon turned on you can
click on it to toggle between show/hide for the ticker.
What does the "Snap to Screen Edges" option mean?
This option allows you to have CoolTick "snap" to the top, bottom, left and right of your screen
as you drag it to a new location. When this setting is turned off, you can move CoolTick beyond
the edges of your screen, which comes in handy with multiple monitors.
What does the "System Tray Icon" do for me?
This option allows you to see an icon in the system tray (usually lower right of your screen by the clock)
to toggle between show/hide. This is handy if CoolTick gets hidden behind other applications. You can also
right-click on this icon to bring up the CoolTick menu.

How do I resize CoolTick?
To change the vertical and horizontal size of the ticker, simply move the cursor to one of the
edges (top, bottom, left or right) and you will notice that it changes into a "resize" cursor. Hold the left mouse button
down to "drag" the edges and make the ticker bigger or smaller. If the "Snap" option is turned on
you will notice the ticker snap to screen edges while you move close to them.
How do move CoolTick to a different location on my screen?
Move your mouse cursor over the left or right "grabber" and you will notice the cursor
changes to a grabbing hand with arrows to the left and right. Hold the left mouse button
down while you drag the left or right side of the ticker. This allows you to both resize
the ticker horizontally and change the vertical location. The change the vertical size
you must move the cursor over the top or bottom edge. If the "Snap" option is turned on
you will notice the ticker snap to screen edges while you move close to them.
How do I change the speed of scrolling?
Open the "Options" dialog and use the slider bar to change both the speed and direction of scrolling.
New dynamic speed and direction control is now possible by moving the cursor over the scrolling
part of the ticker and then dragging to the left or right (while holding down the left mouse button).
The distance that you move changes the speed and direction relative to its current setting. You
will need to play with this feature for a bit to get the hang of it, but it's a vast improvement over the
limited speed and direction control of the Options slider bar.
How do I stop scrolling?
Use the same slider bar that you would use to change the speed (in the "Options" dialog)
but move the slider to the middle, it will show "(paused)" to indicate scrolling will stop.
Alternatively, you can use the new dynamic speed and direction control with the mouse
and simply reduce the speed until scrolling stops.
How do I change the direction of scrolling?
Open the "Options" dialog and use the slider bar to change both the speed and direction of scrolling.
Alternatively, you can use the new dynamic speed and direction control with the mouse
and simply reverse the direction by dragging the mouse.

What is a Quick-Link?
This feature allows web-site links to be added to the scrolling ticker. This is useful
if you have a preferred stock information website or news site or just any site that you want
to access with one click. Click the "Quick Link" radio button when you "Add" a new symbol
to your list and give it a try.
Why would I use Quick-Links?
Because it makes your frequently visited websites one click away. For example, if you do
not have your browser open, one click is all it takes to open your browser to the web site.
